K2Share Supports OSHA Summer Job Safety Campaign for Teen Workers through its CareerSafe® Online Program

06 April 2006

Washington- K2Share’s CareerSafe® Online Program participated today at the kick off for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Campaign for Summer Youth Safety.

Youth workers were honored by Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Edwin Foulke at a special event at Edison Academy which marked the beginning of the new OSHA campaign.

"We’re launching this safety campaign now to help educate teens on workplace dangers and offer solid safety tips that will help them stay safe and healthy on the job,” Assistant Secretary Foulke said.

The Teen Summer Job Campaign is a multi-year project to increase awareness about workplace hazards, and provide possible solutions to those hazards, for young workers and their parents. The campaign will focus on industries in which young people are likely to work during their high school and college years.

Through an Alliance with OSHA Region VI, the CareerSafe® program has been a leader in youth safety training and an integral part of educating students nationwide on OSHA safety standards and regulations. As part of a purchasing agreement between the Fairfax County School systems and the CareerSafe® Online program all youth participating in the OSHA campaign kick off were trained on OSHA safety standards through the CareerSafe® Online program.

“The CareerSafe Program has enjoyed working with Fairfax County and its students to educate them on the benefits of OSHA safety training,” CareerSafe® Program Manager Andrea Foster-Mack said. “The students at Edison Academy show great initiative and drive in working towards staying safe in the workplace.”

Also in attendance at the kick off was OSHA’s Alliance , and the K2Share CareerSafe® partner, SkillsUSA.   SkillsUSA is a national youth organization with over 300,000 high school and collegiate members who are enrolled in training programs, technical skills, and service occupations.
